Context Statements
HISTORIC CONTEXT STATEMENTS are used by local governments to provide a framework for understanding historic patterns of development in their communities.
The following listing consists of public agencies within four counties that frame the South San Francisco and Monterey Bay areas in Central California. The links are to historical context statements, either online or within this site. Public agencies that do not have adopted context statements have no links (or we haven't located them yet). In some cases the context statements are extracts from other related planning documents such as General Plans, Historic Preservation Elements within General Plans, or Historic Preservation Ordinances. Some public agencies have both an adopted Historical Context Statement, as well as Historic Preservation Policies within both the General Plan and their Municipal or County code.
Many of these agencies have other planning documents that contain historical context statements that pertain to specific areas such as historic districts. These are referenced and included where possible.
Authorship is not clear on many of these documents. Please utilize the information provided within with care and be sure to attribute their source.
